Veronica L. Kortz returned to the world of Fine Art with the New Millennium even though her interest in Art was fostered and encouraged beginning in the 8th grade. One of her high school accomplishments was when one of her works of a paper mosaic portrait was selected to travel the world in an international student show. She was fortunate enough to attend one summer the Banff School of Fine Arts in Alberta, Canada. Veronica graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Art Education from the University of the Americas.
Art has always been part of her life, from ceramics, stain glass, home design and decorating. She moved from Fine Arts to Language Arts and received her M.S. in Reading Education from CSUF. She currently balances both interests as Reading Specialist at Rio Hondo College and Long Beach City College and Art Instructor at Fullerton Senior Center and La Habra Community Center through North Orange County Community College District.
Veronica's artwork now has taken resurgence in two forms, one being large studio works and the other plein aire (French term for open air or outdoors) studies with her oil paintings being free and expressive, in addition to some works in watercolors, pastels and pencil, depicting her favorite places or special people throughout her travels. They are focused in the moment and most completed on location or in a single day to capture the immediacy of the single experience of mood, color reflections of time and space. Each Painting captures a precious time in history never to be the same again. The process is exciting, there is high energy flowing in her brush strokes, beautiful color harmony and strong composition in her work.

My passion for plein aire painting combines my love of nature and being in the moment and in touch with my feeling and mood with a particular experience and certain place to provide inspiration. It is great fun to play with light, color, shapes, form, design, with rhythm, movement, balance and grace, contrast and variety. Creating a new and original painting is always a new learning experience, a totally enriching and exciting journey from a blank canvas to a visual expression of a precious moment of my life, mainly here in Southern California, with some vacation time for international travels. I paint because I love to paint -- it brings me great joy and peace of heart keeping me centered, focused and integrated.

What has art done for me? I know art is not about winning first and second place, honorable mentions, state shows or even national shows, selling works and having buyers from France or Korea and throughout Southern California. Although it is wonderful to be acknowledged, this only gives me permission to continue painting.
Art is about all my life, acceptance and innocence. Life is so short so fleeting and going by way too fast! With my art, which consists mostly of oil paintings, I have tried to capture those special moments, special times, special encounters with the Divine Creator's creation and creatures and their individuality. As all of us human beings I have struggled through life making the best of its challenges and blessings. I have many roles as daughter, sister, wife, mother, teacher, and artist. My personal relationships have been most important in my life, secondary, my career as a part-time freeway-flying community college instructor but both fulfill only part of my life purpose. My inner most need to create and express myself honestly, my true authentic unique being, is where art is so essential to my existence. It is my art works that bring balance, clarity, wholeness and cohesiveness to everyday life.

My paintings are my gift to the world of my perceptions and appreciation of earth's beauty. They are my small and gentle part of making a difference of bringing joy, beauty and peace into a sometimes insane, chaotic, violent, forceful-moving, suffering planet.
